The skills I think I was good at was filming and
editing. During filming I was able to understand how to take each shot and how
to make them effective. I was also aware of my surroundings so that I was able
to film properly without any interruptions or distractions. This was a skill
that I was able to develop and learn from. Another skill I developed during the
prelim project was editing. I was able to cut and add clips onto the timeline
to make the short film look professional.
The completed film was successful as different
shots and angles were used which included of long shots, mid shots, over the
shoulder shots and more. The edits used also made the film successful. Match
cuts were used which made the action of walking seamless and allowed the viewer
to follow the action than notice an edit has taken place. Shot reverse shots
were used to show the conversation between characters. The 180 degree rule was
also used which orientated the viewer to show what position that characters are
in on set.
The changes I would make if I were to complete the
project again is I would try to make the camera is still as possible so that it
seems more professional as well as making sure that the microphone is working
so that the sound and conversation is picked up.
Storyboarding is important because it allows you
to visualise what you want to do and shows how the video will be mapped out. It
also makes filming easy as it allows you to know what kind of shots to use and
how they’ll be laid out. Storyboarding allows you to have a smoother production
as you will know what you are doing so time is saved.
