RESEARCH - TASK 4: Purpose and common features of title sequences

The main purpose of a title sequence is to show the credits of the owners of the film and the production company who were involved in the making of the film. Title sequences also have other purposes such as to entice the audience, introduce the characters of the film to the audience and to set the tone, atmosphere and genre of the film.

The conventions of a title sequence is the include the title of the film, start of with idents (visual logo that represents the company), to show the setting/location of the film so the audience can get an idea of what time era the film is set in and to set up themes and plot within the film. Other conventions are to have title credits to give additional information, have a soundtrack or non diegetic sound to set the tone and atmosphere and introduce the characters.

One example of an effective title sequence is Skyfall.
